Three Days of Interdisciplinary Exploration and Performance
Bilkent University had the pleasure of hosting Pierre Jodlowski for an intensive three-day workshop and lecture series held at the A. Adnan Saygun Recital Hall (Main Campus). Bringing together 19 students from diverse artistic backgrounds, the program offered a focused exploration of interdisciplinary creation through lectures in the mornings and improvisation sessions in the afternoons.
Each day approached the creative process from a different perspective.
On Friday, Jodlowski introduced his general approach to interdisciplinarity, examining how sound, gesture, image, and staging function as interconnected forces within a performative framework. The afternoon session moved directly into collective improvisation, encouraging participants to test these ideas in practice.
On Saturday, the lectures concentrated on video and visual integration, addressing how moving image interacts with sound and performance. The subsequent improvisation session deepened the collaborative process, with students refining material through experimentation and structured exploration.
On Sunday, the focus shifted to space — both acoustic and performative — and how spatial thinking shapes musical and theatrical expression. The afternoon rehearsal consolidated the three days of work, culminating in a public performance on Sunday, March 22nd, at 18:30.
The final presentation was met with enthusiasm from the audience and marked a compelling conclusion to an intense period of experimentation and artistic dialogue. For the participating students, the workshop offered not only technical and conceptual insights but also a rigorous and inspiring environment for collaborative creation.
We thank Pierre Jodlowski for his generosity, artistic vision, and commitment, and we congratulate all participating students for their dedication and outstanding performance.
