Call for Multichannel Works – Sound in Space

Haberler ve Duyurular

June 6, Bilkent University Music Department

We invite submissions for Sound in Space, an electroacoustic concert exploring spatial sound and multichannel composition. The call is open to all composers and artists.

The concert will be presented on a 3D loudspeaker system consisting of:
– 8 ear-level speakers (octophonic ring)
– 4 ground-level speakers
– 4 height-level speakers
– 1 subwoofer

Requirements

  • Works must be fixed media multichannel compositions
    – Minimum format: 8 channels. Works engaging the full system will be prioritized
    – Stereo, quadraphonic, 5.1, or similar smaller formats will not be accepted
    – Maximum duration: 12 minutes

Attendance at the concert is expected for accepted composers.

Accepted formats:

– Ambisonics (AmbiX format, up to 7th order)

or
– Discrete multichannel audio (channels clearly labeled*) accompanied by a binaural render

*For discrete multichannel submissions, audio files should follow a clear and consistent labeling convention to ensure correct routing on the 17-speaker system. Each channel must be identified using standardized IDs: E1–E8 for the ear-level octophonic ring (arranged clockwise from front-left), G1–G4 for the ground layer (front left ,front right, back right ,back  left), H1–H4 for the height layer (front left ,front right, back right, back  left), and SUB for the subwoofer. File names should follow the structure [WorkTitle]_[ChannelID].wav (e.g., MyPiece_E1.wav), or alternatively, a single interleaved WAV file may be submitted using the fixed channel order E1–E8, G1–G4, H1–H4, SUB (e.g., MyPiece_17ch.wav). All submissions must also include a brief routing sheet clearly indicating how channels correspond to speaker positions, and a stereo binaural render labeled accordingly

Submissions must be made via the online application form. You will be asked to provide:
– A download link to the audio files (WeTransfer or similar)
